Magical white desert, artistic heritage and weather that compliments all of it, Rann Utsav is a must-attend festival this year. But before that, do you know enough of the spectacular Rann of Kutch? Let’s begin there, shall we?

Where is Rann of Kutch?

This massive land of salt marshes is spread across Kutch (Gujrat) over 10,000 square miles.

What’s so special about it?

This land is more than what meets the eye. It’s probably the only land where you can see the sea on one side and desert on the other. Not only that, in spite of having two extremely different zones, it has a rich ecosystem.  Be it mangroves, be it desert vegetation or various forms of wildlife. It also includes some endemic and endangered animal and plant species. Interesting isn’t it?

Weather –

The weather condition here is also very fluctuating. It’s one of the hottest areas but at the same time during winter months the night temperature can go down to 0 degrees.

You will also get a first-hand experience of the local dancers performing their dance forms with folk music. Stay in a mud house, try your hand at mud painting and pottery.

Architecture –

Kutch is known for its very artistic architecture which captures the style and art of the earlier era. You can visit palaces, temples, and museums to see the architectural marvel.

Nature –

Kutch is a natural wonder, no doubt about that. There are so many things about this place that will leave you speechless. The huge salt flatlands (white desert),  where you feel you are in the middle of nowhere. No tree, or water body or no habitation can be seen for miles.

Viewpoints from where you can see a magical view of the Rann. It’s as if you are sitting on the edge of the earth. Don’t forget to pay a visit to Kala Dungar. It’s the Black Hills which is the highest point in Kutch, at 462 m.

You can also visit Mandvi beach at Gujrat’s coastline. Experience the extreme temperature and then see the sun melting down far in the sea and how it brings the night cold wave and hence the drop in temperature.
